  • Chicory….

    Cichorium intybus (Asteraceae)

A slender perennial, easily established from seed, producing a deep taproot. A native of Europe, it has escaped from cultivation and naturalized throughout North America. The plant contains a white, milky sap that appears if the stem is broken. Flowers are blue, remaining on the plant for only a single day. Prefers full sun in well-drained soils.

Ankit went looking for this in North India for possible exports.

  • Darjeeling Visit . . .

Darjeeling without tea would be like Switzerland without watches. Could it be that the swiss alps today attract more tourist because watches over the decades, have helped to develop the the wherewithalsof tourism better  than that of darjeeling tea? Surely in sheer majesty and purity, the Himalayas must soar above the alps? And yet tourism does not earn even one-thousandth of what it does for Switzerland. The scope for Darjeeling hills to earn foreign exchange must therefore be enormous. But first things must come first and the economic foundation of the hills must be secured first. And the foundation of Darjeeling is TEA……………

  • STTA…

Siliguri Tea Traders Association held its elections on 28th May 2007 and I was selected again for the second time to help the executive committee as Secretary for the period of next two years. A honour indeed, but I must be more honest in my efforts to serve the Indian Tea industry, since we are responsible for the sale of 200 million kilos of Tea produced in North Bengal.
